He was revealed to actually be a split personality of Carol Ferris, Hal Jordan's girlfriend who had previously been the super-villain Star Sapphire. It comes as a shock, but Guy Gardner has been able to largely avoid the same tragedies as his fellow Green Lanterns. The Predator was originally introduced as a villain who fought Green Lantern. But by keeping his circle small, Guy's loved ones are mostly contained to those much more likely for resurrection (ie, superheroes). The first time was when he witnessed the death of his father, pilot Martin Jordan. Hal Jordan’s life was changed twice by crashing aircraft. Guy’s often accused of being one of the more emotionally closed off members of the Corps. Test pilot Hal Jordan went from being a novelty, the first-ever human Green Lantern, to one of the most legendary Lanterns to ever wield a power ring. Green Lanterns like Hal and Kyle lost people that weren’t exclusively tied to the Corps, but Guy doesn’t have as many people in his life outside of work.
Why was Guy so fortunate when the others weren’t? Aside from pure luck, it could just be because the Green Lantern doesn’t have that many connections outside of the Corps and the superhero community. But Hal doesnt realize hes been followed by Black. For some reason, Gardner was given a second chance that the universe had denied the other Earth-based Green Lanterns. Green Lantern brings his new girlfriend, Olivia Reynolds, to Central City to meet Barry, Iris, and Wally. After coming to terms with her murder and taking time for herself, Ice was able to return to the life she once knew, part of which was her relationship with Guy. But unlike the citizens of Coast City or Alexandra DeWitt, Ice was resurrected after her body is discovered by the Birds of Prey. This may be splitting hairs as Justice League International’s Ice was killed by the Overmaster.
